Thanksgiving 2010 Lunch at the Tides
About 30 miles downriver from the RYC is Carter's Creek and the wonderful resort of the Tides Inn. Alas the Miss Ann is no longer alongside the dock. Clockwise starting at 7pm: Maria, Chris, Margaret, Eric, Hazel, my vacant seat, Patti, Michael (hiding), Tamara, and David L. and we are only on the first course! Michael and Maria were our gracious hosts!
Tides Inn warm up
Post Thanksgiving lunch, we worship Vulcan the God of Fire - Carter's Creek and the Rappahannock River behind us.

Cesme Marina after Sunset
Time exposure using Nikon D300 for anything between 5 and 30 seconds yields wonderful highlights - without a tripod the trick is to position the camera on a tree, wall or bench and hold it really tight while the seconds tick by....
Greek island Chios seen from Cesme Turkey - 180° panorama
This is a set of three photos that were automatically photo-merged in Photoshop CS5 - click on the photo to see the full view. The island of Khios or Chios lies to the West of the Cesme peninsula and a busy shipping and fishing channel separates Greece and Turkey.

Main Course Arrives at RYC on the Hoof
As luck would have it Venison is on the RYC menu, however this trio of deer have made the RYC their habitat and they are so sensible... fresh Lyriope, baby Holly bush sprigs, Black Eyed Susans, and their favorite Azeleas! They must know that in the hunting season, town and marina property are off limits and they remain perfectly safe.

Close encounter with Turkish Trawler
Lots of waving of arms and shouting as a Turkish trawler drops its barge board and nets a hundred feet away - we take immediate action with a speedy tack to port.... In retrospect the trawler was probably following a school of fish using a fish-finder and I believe the school must have made a turn in our direction which put us in the target zone!

Louis D'Or II Pre-Cruise Check
Men's week 2010 is coming soon with an expedition to the Aegean port of Izmir in Turkey. Louis D'Or II, a Feeling 41 is having her bottom
cleaned and rudder post inspected. Looks like some corrosion but not enough to be of immediate concern.....

Oyster Feast at RYC
Just the tastiest oysters from the salty Delaware Bay (supplied by Capt. Faunce Seafood) served with Pinot Grigio make a memorable summer supper at RYC... a squeeze of lemon on some, a teaspoon of shallot and white balsamic mignonette on the others....

Tail Wagger II visits RYC
Ahhhh!... the pleasures of taking a new boat out on a test trial up the Rappahannock River to Naylors Beach.... checking the ride at different power settings... the comfort of a 330 HP Cummings diesel happily purring away beneath the deck.... 22 knots on the plane... Emerson's 32 foot Elzey has one previous owner: the editor of the Chesapeake Bay Magazine who barely puttered out of his river. Tail Wagger II was shocked when asked to go the 150 mile non-stop dash from Kent Islands to Garretts Marina with just a bare 30 minute fuel stop at Deltaville.... no problem!!!
